Dalys Aldgate was born 235 years ago. Convicted, whilst living in London, of a crime he didn't commit he is transported to Australia where he is turned into a Vampire. Today he is the reclusive owner of a haunted inn in Natchez, Mississippi. Tia Martell, an ex-cop, is working as a freelance photographer and has been sent to Natchez to photograph some mansions when she witnesses a hit and run killing outside Aldgate's inn. When she later discovers she has inadvertently taken pictures of the murderer and his car she decides, against her better judgement, to take the pictures to Aldgate rather than the local police. Soon Tia finds herself drawn into the mysterious world of the modern-day vampire where she becomes a pawn in a rather dangerous game. Having read, and thoroughly enjoyed this story I think it would be best described as a contemporary vampire story with some romantic moments. This is another of those books that I just could not put down. It is extremely well written and the interplay between the two main characters is excellent. There are some seriously hot sparks flying between Tia and Dalys. There are a couple of things that become very obvious when reading this story. One is that Jaye Roycraft has experience as a female police officer as there is considerable technical detail concerning the police procedures. Also, Jaye has put in some serious research time. One particular section of the story is based around the London legal system circa 1786 for which the detail is historically very accurate. |
