Just when life is supposed to be getting back to as normal as it gets for Necromancer/bounty hunter/no longer really human Dante Valentine and her lover, the former demon Japh, it gets weirder and more dangerous than ever when the devil summons her. Forced to trust Japh beyond any limit she has ever trusted anyone, she finds herself in a binding contract with Lucifer for seven years and Japh's powers restored, thanks to his negotiations. She now has to track down escaped demons, but is that the real reason she's been granted the title of the Devil's Right Hand? Danny strongly suspects not, especially with demons after her and Japh being more enigmatic than ever. The truth will chill her to the bone and prove that the devil is the prince of lies. Set in a world that is far too dark, where there is no true faith in anything or any One, this reads like an action movie, only bleaker. The obvious antipathy towards monotheists, particularly those of the Judeo-Christian variety is also very disturbing, and what is supposed to be funny comes off as simply sardonic and bitter. |
