Mary is an ex-stunt woman, mass murderer and one hundred percent psychopath. When her twin sister, Desiree, is imprisoned for a murder she didn't commit (and Mary knows this to be true as she did it herself) Mary decides to do everything within her power to free her. However, as you might expect, there is no way that she is just going to catch a bus to Arizona and employ a lawyer to get her sister released – oh no! Mary battles her way across the country leaving a trail of bodies in her wake. This is a bizarre book. Essentially the story of one woman's campaign to free her sister it has been written as a vaguely discordant and frequently disconcerting story with more than it's fair share of over-the-top violence, extreme language and a rather obsessive love between the two sisters. When I finished reading this I was left with a very strange sensation. It felt weird talking about whether I had enjoyed it as it's extreme nature left me feeling quite uncomfortable but strangely enough I still found it impossible to put down. I must warn all possible readers of this book that it has a high possibility of causing offence. The language is extreme. The violence is, if possible, worse with some very vivid descriptions and the incestuous nature of the relationship between the two sisters definitely left me feeling a little grubby! The book is published by a company called Contemporary Press who definitely do not pull their punches when it comes to the type of books they choose to publish. They specialise in more extreme stories and, in their own words: "Words? We like them raw". I love books. I love reading and I was delighted to discover a publisher willing to take risks and I will definitely be looking out for more of their books. |
