What we have in this anthology is a set of nine stories taking in Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror. We have ghosts, vampires, androids, reincarnation, paranoia and 'The Caretaker'.

It's 'The Caretaker' I like. He runs a shop in a Manhattan sidestreet where objects can be bought. Objects that may not be exactly as they seem. It's a wonderful twist on the old curios shop. The author has set up the shop, 'The Caretaker' and the objects to lead into little morality plays that can have either good or bad conclusions. Hopefully there will be more of these tales.

The story mentioned title in the book's title is a gentle tale of love between a female vampire and an aging servant. The writing in the tale evoking honest emotion in the characters not merely reporting it. Similarly in Steel Velvet, the story of a man and a female android he creates, and modifies continually throughout his life.

These tales are not groundbreaking, they do not stretch the reader exploring new ideas of technology, nor do they bring forth images of complete horror. But as a reader I do not want every book/story I read to be taxing. Every now and again I like a comfortable read and that's what books like this are for, as we get nine well crafted, easy to read, feel-good stories.

These are good stories, from an author who's yet to disappoint. The only thing I found when reaching the end of the book is that I wanted more.
