Until the day a desperate man ran into the coffee shop where she worked, Belle Jamison's life was at best ordinary. After he was taken away by the "CIA", or so they said, Belle began to feel ill, and was most grateful to get to go home to bed. However, when she wakes up, it is a week later, she's lost her job, feels less than wonderful, and a handsome, irritating man is in her house telling her she's going to be neutralized.

Belle's sickness was her body changing to accomodate her new powers, command over the elements. Her captor tells her that the desperate man spiked her latte with a drug that imbued her with these gifts, placing her in the middle of a war between two paranormal agencies. Rome has been sent to bring her in to his boss for testing, then, if she's lucky, she can be a super hero too, and if she's not, she will be placed in a coma, along with all the other scrims- supernatuaral criminals.

Belle at first can't believe him, but believe it or not, she's terrified of Rome and of his opponent. So, she does the logical thing, goes on the run, assisted by the kid whose car she commandeered, Tanner. Rome, however, is the best tracker there is, and soon, he catches the fugitives. By this time, Belle has realized how attracted she is to Rome, and he to her. Instead of taking her in, he is willing to help her hide, if she can keep his daughter safe. Unfortunately, powers bigger and less sentimental than they have other ideas.

If you're looking for fun, suspense, and romance all in one fast-paced read, then this is what you're after. Belle's journey from zero to hero is the ride of a lifetime, and the supporting cast she meets along the way are just as interesting. This would be a great series, but even if it's only one book, it's worth the time.
