For centuries, Anya has lived to seduce and cause chaos, but now she has managed to cause Cronus, the ruler of the Underworld, to want her dead. Yet, Lucien, the incarnation of death, does not inspire anything like fear or hate in her, just desire. Though Lucien finds it unbelievable that a beauty like her could want a scarred warrior such as he, he finds himself torn between duty and the passionate yearning Anya inspires. When it appears duty will win out, Anya reveals information that sets Lucien and his brother warriors on a quest to stop something that could cause worse than the world ending to befall creation, thus gaining a slight reprieve and a chance to become even closer to this powerful being she is coming to love as much as she lusts for him. Ms. Showalter presents intriguing concepts in this imaginative tale. Though I would have enjoyed a bit more of a balance between the main story and the heat, there is plenty of solid plot to satisfy the intellect, while those who crave the more sensual will be sated. |
