I am a fan of the 'Golden Age' SF writers and so any comments I give must be seen against that light. I enjoyed reading this book. It is by no means Simak's best (I might reserve that, in my opinion, for either Way Station or City) but not a book I would say avoid by any means - Simak's prose style is still enough to keep your attention.

As with most older Science Fiction novels, it is not a long read (the edition I possess has only 175 pages) and as such you do not get endless pages of characterisation merely a story, although the ending did seem a little abrupt even for a short novel.

One thing I would advise anyone who wishes to read this, is don't pause half way through a chapter to come back to it later unless you can't avoid it. Some of the chapters go off track aways and need to be taken in one sitting.
