Two very different people on equally different missions find themselves united in the near future, and that their goals and selves are not so far apart at all. Sascha Duncan is a cardinal Psy, a member of the ostensible ruling class that has been trained to feel no emotions. On her mother's orders, she is to work with Lucas Hunter, an alpha leopard changeling whose life is filled with emotions. On the surface, it's a simple real estate piece of business that has them working towards a goal. However, Sascha is supposed to be a spy for the Psy Council while Lucas is trying to spy on the Psy Council to learn who among their kind is a murderer. There is something that throws all this off, though. Sascha is "defective"; unlike others of her kind, she has feelings, and those emotions are drawing her to Lucas, and to his world. Though doing what is right is a betrayal of her own kind and possibly will sign her own death sentence, one way or another, she has no choice but to follow her newly awakened heart. With the feel of some of Anne McCaffrey's work, this is an intriguing mystery and coming of age story as well as a romance. Sascha's coming to life unfolds beautifully in this strange, yet familiar world. |
