For some mortals, the only good vampire is a dead one; political differences such as good vamps, those who drink Fusion cuisine or rely on blood banks, vs the Malcontents who do things the old fashioned way, they kill for it, just do not matter. Emma Watson is that sort of mortal and between her work with the Stake Out group and her own vigilante justice exacted against any vampire she can catch while on Slayer patrol, she has made a definite dent in the vampire population. This only makes matters worse for Roman Dragonesti's vampire realm, since the Malcontents are sure he is behind the killings. Therefore, he needs to stop the Slayer, and among those sent to handle the situation is Angus MacKay, a Scottish vampire laird whose first meeting with Emma strikes sparks of attraction, but it takes a while for her to get past wanting to kill him. Love overcomes that, but there is danger. The Malcontents are bent on destroying both Emma and Angus, or forcing them to do so to each other. Meanwhile, a new kind of baby is about to be born, the first human/vampire hybrid. Humor, romance, and edge of your seat suspense make this a triple winner. There are some of the most laugh out loud scenes in the entire series, particularly those with Dr. Phang, and the climatic confrontation with have you biting your nails. Threads from the earlier books are revisited and brought to a satisfying conclusion. |
