Jody Burns is just like any other young girl. She enjoys spending time with her friends shopping at the mall and it is during one such shopping trip that she first meets Twylgalit. Soon Jody finds herself drawn into another world, a world where magic is real, dryads really do inhabit the forest and a terrible evil is threatening to destroy everything. As she travels through the Free Lands Jody starts to re-evaluate what is important in life and starts to look at her twin brother and his friend Jeanne in a completely new light. Talking to Trees is the latest book written by Kathryn Sullivan and follows the experiences of Jody as she is drawn into a magical world and expected to help save a talking tree from attack by a great evil. This would be a great story if the heroine was a willing participant but the fact that Jody is a spoilt brat who thinks of little more than her appearance and being the centre of attention makes this book even more enjoyable. This story is pure fantasy. There are talking trees, dryads and magical powers. What more could you ask for? The writing is enchanting and extremely easy to read and the main characters are well detailed and the storyline flows along easily. All in all I found this to be a wonderful story which had me hooked from the very beginning. In fact, from the first moment I picked up this book I wasn't able to put it down until I had finished the story! It is not often that you are fortunate enough to read an original fantasy story as many of them follow the same kind of story line (a group of adventurers go on a journey) but Talking to Trees definitely had a refreshing and enjoyable theme. The content is very gentle making this book suitable for pretty much any reader. I can't think of anything about the story that could cause offence to anyone. Great fun! |
