Laura Wagner's life is in itself a horror story, but then she hits bottom when she hits a police car and that's the turning point. Instead of jail, she is sent to rehab, and instead of anger, the cop who arrests her offers her love and support. When she comes out clean and sober, her home is waiting for her, but unbeknownst to Laura, this is a house that has a tragic history. Now, specters of that past are reaching out and trying to bring her down into their world, to draw her into a darkness deeper than any she has ever faced.

This is a truly classic ghost story, reminding you of What Lies Beneath, the Uninvited, and so forth. Subtle terror is woven throughout the pages skillfully, making this an impossible to put down book, and one you should avoid reading late at night or when you are alone. Yet, despite this, there is a message that rings through in the end that will resonate with the Judeo-Christian audience. Ms. Taylor has never written a bad story, and this is no exception.

Synopsis
Laura Wagner is a mess. Her addictions to alcohol and prescription drugs have cost her a marriage and the custody of her two daughters. She hits rock bottom when, driving drunk, she backs her car into another vehicle - a police cruiser. But a stint in rehab and the affectionate interest of Officer Mike Gallagher, the very cop she collided with, give her a start on a new life. Making it one day at a time is hard enough, but Laura is hearing voices trying to convince her that she'd be better off dead. When someone is found dead in the basement, it becomes obvious that more than Laura's inner demons are haunting her and her house. But can Laura find the strength to stay sober and subdue the malevolent forces that threaten her and everyone she loves? Could anyone?
