Book three of the Hunter Series and completely in keeping with the deep sensuality of the shifters, vamps and witches found through out the series. Byron is a Master Vampire and good friend of Eli (from book two) with his own enclave. Years earlier, as Byron held his best friend, Kristof, a shapeshifter, as he lay dying. He made a solemn promise to look after Kristof's young daughter Kit, a promise that could end up meaning protecting her from himself as well. Twenty four years after her father's death, Kit is now Byron's second in command, and is having more and more trouble accepting Byrons' hands off policy when it comes to her. She has known that she was his mate for years and even after spending five years at Excelsior, the school for paranormally gifted individuals, the attraction has far from worn off, it has, in fact, increased. When Byron decides, after Kit seduces him, that he must send her off to Europe to experience life and know her own mind, it's the final straw as far as Kit is concerned. If he cannot even acknowledge his feelings for her, then she is determined to be taken before the Council and assigned to another Master's enclave. Incensed at her refusal to acquiesce to his command, and leaving from his bed without even a goodbye, Byron starts to realize just how deep his need for her runs. But will she be able to forgive him for sending her away? And will he be able to forget that she disobeyed his orders? Can he even find her before she goes before the council? Will Malachi, the ancient one, really take her from him? A shorter story in the sensual Hunter Series, but still a deliciously hot story of love and the blindness that sometimes accompanies honorable intentions. |
