The fourth book in the Hunter series lives up to its steamy predecessors by Shiloh Walker from Ellora's Cave. Jonathon, a werewolf in Eli's (Bk 2) enclave has been targeted specifically by something evil. Lori, Sarel's (Bk 2) younger sister and a powerful healing witch in her own right, is called to heal Jon after an altercation. What's unusual is that the evil witch that attacked Jon has left something behind and it's trying to take over Jonathan's mind and body. As Lori battles to save his live, she must go deep into his soul to remove the evil scar, and in doing so must leave something of herself behind. Where he had an evil scythe shaped scar, now resides a phoenix shaped scar with a link to Lori. Through the healing and the now present link, Lori has enmeshed herself deeper into Jonathon's heart and soul, already terrified of the intense attraction he has for Lori, and utilizing avoidance as a way to stay away from her, he fears this new link will draw them even closer to the fiery physical relationship he fears will turn much too personal. Lori, has been trying to get him to acknowledge the attraction between them for ages, and this new intimacy doesn't bother her in the least, in fact it only increases the feelings of rightness, of having found her mate. The evil presence however is much more than they anticipated, and as they begin to unravel the reasons for the specificity of the attack, things become much darker and much more urgent than just coming to terms with the discovery of a mate. It will take everything Jon and Lori have, all their trust in each other, and skills they aren't even aware they possess to defeat the strengthening evil magic brewing and if they should fail, not only will their lives be forfeit but those they hold dear will suffer dreadfully for it. This was a terrific novel in a sensual world where the paranormal rule in the shadows and fight to keep honor and decency alive. Another great book in a spicy supernatural series. |
