The newest installment into the Hunter Series, Book 6 takes us away from the main continuing characters and develops several of the secondary characters from previous novels. Spicy reading, allowing us to witness the ascension to leadership of a Master Vamp in his own right. Rafe, a powerful vamp in Eli's enclave is determined to ignore Sheila, a vampire and hunter of moderate power and even though he knows just how sweet and passionate she is, he is determined to allow no one into his heart. Sheila has had just about all she can take from Rafe, it seems that all he cares about is a good roll in the hay, and nothing Sheila has been able to do has convinced him that she is indeed his mate. When she refuse's him and orders him from her room, it takes Eli to get him to listen. When Sheila petitions Eli to release her from his enclave and let her go before the council and be assigned to another enclave and master, Eli convinces her to take a nice long vacation before she decides on something irreversible. With the embarrassing loss of control foremost in Rafe's mind he studiously ignores Sheila and when he realizes her tantalizing scent is fading, confronts Eli. When Eli tell s him Sheila has left the compound and may not be coming back, Rafe looses it and tries to physically convince Eli to tell him where she's gone. Eli repels his attack, after all he is a master vampire, and while holding his amusement in, tells Rafe, Sheila feels the best way to get Rafe out of her system is to find herself a new man, a sentiment that drives Rafe into a fury. After searching for Sheila for months to no avail, Rafe finally senses her as he approaches a small town, but she isn't alone and it takes everything Rafe has not to kill the man she's with. Dom is the first man she has even had a modicum of interest in, and mostly due to his physical resemblance to Rafe, and his opposite caring attitude toward women, her in particular. There is something wrong with this town though, the feeling of aversion, of wanting to avoid it is almost strong enough to sidetrack Rafe, but with his master powers developing he is able to resist the desire to flee from the area. Indeed the very spell makes him deadly curious. What he finds is a rogue master Marcus who has been hiding for years, and the vamp responsible for almost killing Ben and Shadoe. The land has recognized Rafe as a Master Vamp, and he has claimed his territory as a Master, and is not about to let anyone, take it or Sheila from him. It will be a battle royale to see who will be successful, and much will hinge on Rafe winning back his lady love, and acknowledging her as his mate. Another excellent installment in a great sexy, paranormal series filled with Vamps, Shifters, and Witches. |
