This is the first of Ms Warren's titles to be released as a mass market paperback, and I imagine it will create quite an interest in the previous 6 titles in this series released through Ellora's Cave. This one, as are the previous 6, is simply excellent and anyone who reads paranormal stories will love her work with the Others.

Sullivan Quinn is an Irish Lupine visiting America as the "guth" or ambassador and keeper of the pack traditions. He's here to speak to the Council of Others about the very real threat of becoming exposed to the human population. He, and several other visiting European Other dignitaries, have come to propose the Council start considering revealing themselves to the humans in a way they decide upon rather than as a hostile event led by the Light of Truth or Lightheads, a fanatical group dedicated to killing anything not human.

Cassidy Poe is an anomaly even within the Other community, as a Foxwoman, her species is more magic based than genetic, though only females may pass on the Foxwoman powers of shapeshifting. She is also a respected Anthropologist and the granddaughter of the Grande Dame of the Council of Others. She has been brought in to speak to the issue of how the human will accept the discovery of other paranormal species within their ranks.

Quinn is well know for his devotion to his duty, but at the reception given in his honor, he is distracted by the scent of honeysuckle and the female it belongs to, but even with his full attention he is unable to find her immediately and when he does, she manages, just barely, to escape from him. His surprise is considerable when he discovers just who this mysterious female is and he begins to acknowledge just what she will be to him.

With a tragic kidnapping in Europe and links that lead back to New York, Quinn and Cassidy will be forced to work together to solve that and some other very unpleasant occurrence's all the while trying to come to terms with the intense, fiery reaction that boils up between them.

Will they be able to unravel enough of the plot that threatens their secrecy and way of life and figure out who is really behind the kidnappings and attacks, or will the hidden agenda catch them and use their deaths to further their nefarious cause.

This is another wonderful book by Christine Warren dealing with the Others, which encompasses all the other paranormal species that exist invisibly alongside of us humans. She creates compelling characters and intricate relationships between vamps, shifters, witches, faery's and many others. A truly excellent series with plenty of sizzling interaction between the main character and an evil foe to be fought. This book is completely capable of being read without the previous ones, but I'm equally sure that once you've read this book you will be heading out to get the others. All of Ms Warren's books are keepers, and a world I'll look forward to revisiting again and again.

Cassidy Poe simply wants to live her life; and that means, for her, teaching anthropology, not displeasing her grandmother any more than she has to in order to remain sane, and once in a while turning into a fox. Romance would be nice, but it's not a top priority, especially since Grandma Adele would never approve of most interesting men. All it takes is one night to turn Cassidy's world on its ear.

First, she has a close encounter with a lupine ambassador, then, is called before the High Council of Others' Inner Circle and pressed into service. Moreover, her werewolf "friend" is as well. It seems that a group called the Light of Truth wants to expose the Others, the fairies, the shifters, witches, vampires, etc, and is willing to resort to violence to see that it happens, thus sparking witch hunts and other killing sprees aimed at anyone more than human.

To preserve the way their lives have been for centuries, Cassidy and the werewolf guth, Sullivan Quinn, have to work together. That part is not difficult, since they are falling in love. The hard part might be staying alive and keeping their families that way, too.

Fascinating characters populate Ms. Warren's new world. Exploring it in upcoming books should be a treat, judging by this initial volume.
