For those of you who are unfamiliar or just haven't picked up a David Weber book, well, you just don't know what you're missing. In the Realm of Science Fiction, Weber is royalty. His books, the Honor Harrington series and its spin-offs are gold! They are all well written, gripping novels with enough technical stuff to keep even the most discerning techie very happy.

War of Honor is the 10th in the Honor Harrington series and it is a big read. Set in the future when we have populated the star systems and remote galaxies, people, politics, and warfare just don't seem to change. The depth Weber puts in his writing is simply amazing, and the twists and turns will make your head spin, but all are true to the character their assigned too.

Honor Harrington is a highly principled, loyal, devoted, smart woman who leads by example, she is a true heroine and a perfect character to base this series on her life and experiences, right from the adoption of her treecat Nimitz, to her adoption by the Greyson people, to her battles as a naval officer and her battles with those who find her values' a threat to their personal agendas. Weber shows just how easy it would be to follow someone who valued you as a person and didn't see personal growth as a threat to her in any way.

The Star Kingdom of Manticore and the Peoples Republic of Haven have been at war for years, the latest seize fire and decisive rout at the Battle of Buttercup tore the Republic's Navy to shreds, but the peace talks have stalled largely due to massive mismanagement and personal agendas of the current Star Kingdom's Prime Minister and his party. Much to the disgust of the Star Kingdom's Queen, Honor Harrington, and Hamish Alexander, the leading military minds of the Kingdom, the PR machines have given the Prime Minister and his party, through much back room negotiations, the majority in the ruling house.

The downsizing that Honor and Hamish fought so hard against has come about and the Star Kingdoms Navy has pensioned off its most successful leaders and put puppets and slackards in their places. The Navy ship building and R&D has been put on hold, due to the "Peace Negotiations" that are ongoing but the negotiations are only machinations to keep the current political party in power and they have no intention of allowing an election to threaten their power platform.

While all the political maneuvering is going on in the Star Kingdom, the People Republic (formerly know as the PEEPS) has overthrown a repressive regime and undergone free general elections, but that isn't their greatest achievement, they have not only rebuilt and vastly expanded their Navy but have managed to keep it a total secret from their own people and the Star Kingdom.

Due to a bunch of maneuvering on the part of people who think they know better then everyone else, Manticore and Haven are back at war. The odds are much better matched with the new Republic's equipment and sheer numbers against the severely downsized Royal Manticoran Navy but once again Harrington, know as the Salamander, has routed the invading army in far off Silelsia where she was sent to be "out of the way" as hers was one of the voices raised in opposition of the current governments policies.

After a decisive rout in Silesia, and a standoff at Trevor's Star, the Manticoran government is kicked out in disgrace, and a new more savvy government is in place, and the ongoing non romance - yeah you will have to read the book to figure out that statement - between Honor and Hamish stands at a new beginning, the perfect set up for the next novel, and yes I will be waiting in line for it to come out.

This is a heavy book, it weighs in at 1298k in mobipocket format and for those of you unfamiliar with ebooks that's just under a 1000 pages roughly, in pocket book format. I found this book a little long on politics and short on material regarding Honor Harrington and her interests, but it was still a very worthy read and now will have to read the next novel to find out what happens with Honor and Hamish.. As I said this is book 10 of 16(12 or 13 of which I've read to date) set in the worlds of Honor Harrington, and to have read that many in a series is a pretty fair indication that I loved this book and its predecessors. Start at the beginning of the series with On Basilisk Station and you'll be hooked. I just can't think of any greater praise.

These books are available in ebook formats from http://www.baen.com and http://www.fictionwise.com as well as Amazon for traditional paper and hardcover copies. Whatever form you choose, enjoy the trip to the Honorverse.
