This is the second Robert Charles Wilson I have read and I can certainly confirm it will not be the last. As with Darwinia this is a story concerning part of the Earth's surface being mysteriously replaced with an alternate version. Unlike the other book, however, this deals with the people in the displaced US town on a different version of the world, where everything outside their town is different, roads abruptly end, as to telephone wires. This is another superb story in a style that reminds me of a modern Philip K. Dick. The basic premise of the story is so well explored, the characters react in a completely believeable manner and the new world wonderfully different whilst being the same. Read this book! |
