Anthologies are not the easiest type of literature to review. With few exceptions, they are a mixed bag, and readers might wish they could buy one or two of the stories while chucking the rest. Such is the case in this collection of ghost stories. While none of these stories fall into the Ghost and Mrs. Muir or Everlastin' category, in which a mortal and ghost find a love that transcends the barrier between life and death, not all of them are designed to scare you. Some are, such as 'Griselda' or 'Dance With Me'. Others have a "haunting" sweetness; 'Maxie' and 'Deja Vu' stand out in this category. Still others, like 'Fireball Faye' or 'Forgotten, Not Gone' have the feel of a campfire tale or urban legend. 'What's a Ghost to Do' stands out as a purely comedic bit of fluff, much like the Canterville Ghost. So, almost any sort of ghost fan, other than the pure romantic, will find something herein, though not all the stories will appeal to every reader. |
