A Buffy the Vampire Slayer novel with a high percentage of Vampire action.
Out of the ones I have read that is a first, they have only been peripheral
figures in the ones I have read so far. The writing style is mostly splendid, the only down side I found was Giles' Englishness in certain parts was a little bit heavily written, the writer striving to include as much English slang and swearing in each of Giles' utterances that it just did not work, but thankfully these passages were very short and do not detract from a very enjoyable read. |

Well, unfortunately I cannot be quite as complimentary about this novel as Steve was. OK, I enjoyed the story but to be honest I found that there was too much going on to enable the story to gel properly. At any one time the presence of one new threat plus the usual parade of vamp-types is OK but this book has 3 villains, the return of an old favourite (well, he is if you enjoyed the oiginal film!) AND more vampires per square inch than your local blood bank! Despite all of this there were a few extremely good moments within the story but overall I found the "baddie" content overwhelmed everything else. Not a bad story as such but it would have benefitted from a little judicious editing. |
