When the CSI team are called to the scene of a brutal murder of a family in Queens, they discover the bodies of a married couple and their daughter. But there is no sign of the couple's young son. As Mac and Danny start to investigate the killings they discover things that make them believe that the young boy has been kidnapped. But as the investigation proceeds they start to discover that not everything is as simple as it first seemed. A man confesses to the killings but somehow the evidence doesn't support his story – but why would he lie? In Brooklyn, a body has been discovered. A devoutly religious Jewish man has been killed and his body ritually displayed on the floor of his synagogue. As Stella and Aiden start to look for suspects they find themselves investigating a fringe fundamentalist group that has come into conflict with the congregation. But the charismatic leader is definitely NOT going to help with their enquiries. Blood on the Sun is the latest book in the CSI NY series and follows the same kind of format as the tv episodes – the main characters find themselves investigating two separate cases with the story flipping between the two. The characters in this book are very faithful to those portrayed in the series and this is quite reassuring as there is nothing more irritating than reading a book featuring characters from a series that you enjoy and realising that the author has got something wrong. This is definitely not the case with this story. However, there is something missing. The story is good, the cases are interesting but when I read a tv tie-in novel I want more than just a written version of an episode. The author has the opportunity to do things and create situations that would be impossible in a single episode but with this book the author hasn't done this so I can't help but feel a little short changed. Don't get me wrong, this is a very good story and fans of the series will enjoy it – I just want that little bit more. |
