Arna Greentower has been running the Old Tree Guesthouse for many years and has always seen her fair share of guests. But over the last few weeks things have not been going so well. Deliveries are going missing and visitor numbers are decreasing. Although a number of other premises have opened these do not explain the rapid downturn in business.

Arna's foster daughter, Nisha, has lived in the Old Tree for quite a while but she has never managed to get inside one particular room. When she asks Arna she is just told that the room is forbidden. So when she meets the mysterious Syle Devoris and discovers that the forbidden room is kept vacant for his use alone, Nisha becomes even more determined to discover what it is all about.

As you might have guessed from the title of this book, Nightmare in Quentaris is a more sinister story than some of the others. Nisha is trying to discover why trade at the guesthouse is dropping but she is also desperate to discover the secrets behind the forbidden room. In this story Michael Pryor really manages to paint a dark and mysterious scene with some of the darkest characters we have ever met in the wonderful city of Quentaris.

I know I am starting to sound like a broken record but I am still amazed how Michael Pryor and Paul Collins have managed to maintain the high standard of the Quentaris Chronicles over so many stories written by so many different authors. It is true – I am hooked! Bring on the next one!
