Adyren has worked as an apprentice in the League of Bibliophiles for quite some time but it certainly feels longer! She would love to be doing something more thrilling. Instead she must satisfy her lust for excitement vicariously – by spending every spare minute reading books she has taken from the library crypt. Although she has always desired a more exciting life she certainly didn't intend to be accused of being a master thief! When she is accused of stealing some precious articles from under the noses of the two main families on Quentaris – the Duelphs and the Nibhellines, and arrested for these crimes Adyren must find a way to prove her innocence. But when a book is stolen from the very library in which she works everything seems lost. When she discovers the truth about the thefts, Adyren finds it hard to believe what she is told. However, as she investigates further she discovers a new threat to her freedom – one more serious than being arrested and incarcerated by the City Guard. Rifts Through Quentaris is another short novel set in the land of Quentaris – a land created originally by Paul Collins and Michael Pryor. As with the other books in the series, Rifts follows the life of one of the occupants of the city as they interact with many of the characters first encountered in one or more of the previous stories. It never ceases to amaze me how a series of books, written by a wide range of authors, manages to maintain such a high standard of writing quality and Rifts is no exception. The character of Adyren is wonderfully endearing and the storyline is imaginative, keeping you hooked to the very end. Great fun – a good addition to the Quentaris series. |
