When a fog starts to creep through the city of Quentaris most people just assume it will clear up in time. After a few days the fog seems to be increasing but for some reason anyone who lives below the level of the fog seems to be becoming forgetful and lethargic. Only Iakas, a roofie, and Red, a member of the Watch are seemingly unaffected. But will they be able to save the city and find a way to disperse the fog.

At the same time as the fog, a small cat also enters the city - but this is no ordinary cat. It is actually a shape-shifter, Katya, who has journeyed to Quentaris through a number of portals on the trail of a dangerous shapeshifting criminal – the Scourge. Katya knows that she must prevent the Scourge from escaping Quentaris through the Rift Caves – even if it means destroying the caves in the process.

Will Iakas and Red manage to discover who or what is behind the mysterious fog? At the same time, can Katya stop the Scourge or will she be forced to destroy the rift caves to stop him escaping?

The Cat Dreamer is the latest book in the Quentaris series and follows the lives of Iakas and Red as they try to stop a strange for destroying their city. As with all the other Quentaris novels, this story is great fun and so easy to read.

Isobelle Carmody has written one previous Quentaris book and this seems to have given her more confidence than many of the first time visitors to the city. This has resulted in one of the best stories to date.

Every time I read another book in The Quentaris Chronicles I am amazed that so many different authors manage to write separate books set within a world defined by Michael Pryor and Paul Collins. Each time I wonder if the author will manage to stay faithful to the overall feel of the series and so far I have not been disappointed. I am getting the feeling that I will never be! I hope I am right as I truly enjoy reading these books.
