When Lana Lang asks Clark Kent to help out with the school play he finds himself playing Flunky Number Two, a minor role in the background of the play. However, when the lead man is injured when he mysteriously fall off the stage Clark suddenly finds himself cast in the lead role of Cyrano de Bergerac.

Very soon he finds himself an unwilling object of desire for the leading lady, Dawn Mills. There follows a series of unexplained "accidents" where various students are injured. However, no one has ever seen the assailant.

When Lana is nearly killed by a spooked horse and Clark finds himself trapped inside the barn when the doors become bolted it is clear that there is something strange going on.

I have never watched the Smallville TV series so when a bundle of Smallville books appeared on the doorstep I felt rather apprehensive about starting to read them. Would they revolve around in-jokes that I wouldn't understand?

Then I came down with the flu. I can assure you that when you are sitting on the sofa at 3 o'clock in the morning unable to sleep and feeling like death you need something simple to read. So, I picked up See No Evil... and finished it in one sitting.

See No Evil is a book intended for younger readers. It is extremely easy to read and contains nothing that could cause offence to anyone.

I cannot say if the characters are faithful to those in the TV series but I can say that they are well written and convincing.

For any parent with children who enjoy the Smallville TV series, this range of novels are to be recommended. They are gentle, inoffensive and entertaining.
