Okay so I've been on a bit of a Star trek kick of late, reading three of the young adult books in a short period of time. But they are a good thing to read when you don't have the time or energy to attack a more weighty volume.

This book tells the story of cadet Geordi Laforge on a mission to a undersea research station with a group of other cadets and what happens to them when a earthquake hits the station and threatens them all with death.

Once again the Trek young adult books have provided a fun easy read. The character is a familiar one, with Geordi traits sufficiently reproduced here to make him the recognisable figure from the TV series, the feel of a Starfleet mission comfortable and the action gentle and easy going with just a little tension to maintain the interest, although as we know Geordi had to survive the story you really do have to suspend disbelief to fully experience the tension in the plot.

This book is never going to win any awards but it isn't a bad way of passing an hour or so.
